About Me

Conitsha Barnes serves as Duke Energy’s energy policy management director. In this role, she is responsible for supporting the development of energy policy for Duke Energy in North Carolina. She has more than 24 years of experience in the electric utility industry.

Before assuming her current position in December 2021, Barnes served as regulatory affairs manager for Duke Energy. Her responsibilities included developing and implementing the strategic plan for regulatory matters that enable customer programs and offerings, testifying before the North Carolina Utilities Commission for cost recovery proceedings and implementation of the company’s service regulations in North Carolina.

Joining the company in 1998 as a customer service specialist for Duke Power, Barnes has held numerous leadership positions throughout the company, including in regulatory affairs and policy, the strategy execution office, market solutions and customer service organizations.

Barnes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from North Carolina State University and is a Master of Business candidate at the University of South Carolina.

Active in a number of community and industry boards, Barnes serves on the board of directors for the Academic Learning Center and on the governing board for the Cabarrus College of Health Science. She also serves as the southeast regional director for the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE).

She lives in the Charlotte, NC, area.
