About Me
Dr. Brooks is an Associate Professor working in both the RN-BSN program and the MS Nursing program. A native of Concord, NC, Dr. Brooks earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Science in Nursing, with an emphasis in Adult Health Nursing and Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a nationally accredited institution. As part of her doctoral program requirements, she completed a research study for her dissertation, “An Exploration of Nurses’ Knowledge of Right Hemisphere Stroke Associated Communication Impairments” surveying over 2000 RNs in completing this research.
She has been an RN since 1980, with over 23 years’ experience in nursing education. Prior to becoming a nurse educator, Dr. Brooks worked in ICU, medical-surgical nursing, and home health. She gained leadership and management experience as a charge nurse of a 36-bed neuroscience, medical unit at Atrium Health Cabarrus and is passionate about the care of patients surviving a stroke and their rehabilitation. Much of her teaching experience is at the in the ADN program at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, serving as course coordinator of the Mental Health Nursing course.
