About Me

Dr. Houston is an alumni of Cabarrus College of Health Sciences with an Associate of Science degree in Medical Assisting, Magna Cum Laude.  She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Human Services, Cum Laude from Montreat College, a Master of Professional Studies in Psychology of Leadership from Pennsylvania State University, and a Doctor of Health Sciences with a concentration in Rural Health from Campbell University. 

She is currently an active member of many professional organizations including the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), formerly chairing the Leaders in Education and Practice national committee and serving as President of the Cabarrus County Chapter of Medical Assistants.  Dr. Houston has a passion for research and is actively involved in multiple community-based projects.

Prior to Cabarrus College, Dr. Houston worked as a CMA in Orthopedic Surgery and Obstetrics/Gynecology.  She has also worked in the home health setting.  Dr. Houston joined Cabarrus College in the Medical Assistant program in 2011, progressing from clinical instructor to the Associate Professor rank and Program Chair.  She currently teaches across multiple programs including Medical Assisting, Community Health and Wellness, and Community Paramedicine.  Dr. Houston became the inaugural Dean of Health Professions in January 2025 and is passionately dedicated to growing our many program offerings here at Cabarrus College. 

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, sports, and spending time with her two daughters.
